Jay Mattison is director of SEO operations at OuterBox, the Akron, Ohio, performance marketing agency led by CEO Jeff Allen. A technical SEO who came up in ecommerce search, he spent six years at Trinity Insight before joining OuterBox in October 2023, and he founded Tek Everything, a website and YouTube channel about small form factor PCs.
Technical SEO at Trinity Insight
Mattison joined the ecommerce agency Trinity Insight in 2017 as a senior SEO analyst, led its technical SEO team from 2019, and became its director of SEO in 2022. On a 2019 episode of the Home Gadget Geeks podcast he described the job as technical SEO for ecommerce websites, to "make them work better and make more money," with some front-end development on the side.
Building Tek Everything
On the same show he traced his interest in technology to childhood, when he built with Legos and took apart his Nintendo, his Game Gear, and remote controls, and to his father, who always had stereos and speakers. In his early twenties he ran a general tech review site that he coded by hand and later shut down. He started Tek Everything at about 29, launching the YouTube channel first and the website alongside it. He chose small form factor PCs because the community was small and "there was really no one doing it." The site's about page says he tries "to cover awesome products that may not be getting as much mainstream attention as they deserve."
Measuring SEO at OuterBox
In January 2026 Mattison presented a webinar with AccuRanker's Mikkel Wegener Nielsen on how SEO teams should measure their work when keyword rankings no longer describe a brand's visibility, and OuterBox said it drew record sign-ups. The companion presentation, The New SEO Scorecard, replaces keyword position and click-through curves with measures such as share of visibility, indexation rate, prompt rankings, share of citations in AI answers, and AI brand sentiment. One of its lines sums up why indexation comes first: "If it's not indexed, it can't be retrieved by search engines or cited by AI assistants."
