Véronique Barnard is the visual branding expert at Kalicube, the agency Jason Barnard founded to manage how people and companies appear when someone searches their name on Google or asks an AI assistant about them. She has designed Kalicube's visual identity since January 2016. Born in Paris, France, she is a graphic designer and illustrator who co-created the children's characters Boowa and Kwala and voiced Kwala, the yellow koala.
Graphic Arts Training in Paris
She writes on her portfolio that she trained in graphic arts at the École Corvisart and then the École Renoir in Paris. Until 2000 she worked as a layout artist at Agence Darjeeling under the typographer Jean-Luc Dusong, and then as an art director on major accounts at Euro RSCG Futurs.
Creating Boowa and Kwala
In 1998 she and Jason Barnard created Boowa and Kwala, a blue dog and a yellow koala who explained the world to children under six, for the children's website Uptoten, which she says they produced from Mauritius until 2009. She drew the illustrations and the characters' visual world, co-wrote the scripts, wrote many of the songs on the album 53 Bright Songs From The TV Series, and voiced Kwala. A TV series co-produced with ITV aired in 25 countries, including on Playhouse Disney, according to Jason Barnard's history of the project.
Visual Branding at Kalicube
Kalicube's team page says she shapes its visual identity across every touchpoint so the brand appears "authoritative, polished, and unmistakably premium," and that she designs "for trust and visibility in the age of AI." Her line on the same page is a designer's joke about hex color codes: "A hex isn't just a spell in Harry Potter."
She also works freelance from the south of France, between Nîmes and Montpellier, designing logos, brand guidelines, packaging, labels, and signage for small businesses, much of it shown on her portfolio.
