Margaret Kelsey

Chief Marketing Officer

Animalz

Margaret Kelsey is Chief Marketing Officer of Animalz, the content agency for software companies led by CEO Ty Magnin. A B2B brand and content marketer, she was one of InVision's first 40 employees, later ran brand and creative at Appcues and marketing at the venture firm OpenView, and joined Animalz in August 2026.

Content and Community at InVision

Kelsey joined InVision, the design-collaboration software company, as one of its first 40 employees and stayed from before its Series A through its Series E. As content marketing and community manager she built programs where content and community overlapped: the company blog; DesignTalks, a virtual speaker series she says drew more than 54,000 designers a year; and a newsletter sent in the voice of "Clark from InVision" that readers turned into memes.

Appcues and OpenView

She moved to Appcues, the product-led onboarding company, as director of brand and creative, overlapping with Magnin's time there. On her personal site she says she grew the Appcues blog to supply 25% of the leads handed to sales, and she hosted Voice of the Product, an interview series with product-led growth practitioners.

She then spent about three years as VP of marketing at OpenView, the venture firm that coined the term product-led growth, where she ran the firm's own marketing and advised portfolio companies on org design and team building.

Between in-house roles she advised founders and coached marketers, worked with Magnin again for a short stint at Vendr, and for two years co-hosted Don't Say Content with Devin Bramhall, a weekly show about cutting jargon out of conversations between marketers and the founders they report to.

Joining Animalz as CMO

Magnin announced her hire in August 2026. In his LinkedIn post he said she has "strong opinions and frameworks for what makes good content," and that her ethos matched the agency's: "quality over quantity, solve for the audience, content isn't a vending machine, and no amount of AI replaces taste."

Her site says she has "a serious aversion to the marketing playbooks that have been done before" and prefers work built for one company, one audience, and one moment. She also says the teams she has managed have kept a 93% retention rate, and that her current side project explores where internal culture and external brand overlap.
