William Craig is Founder and CEO of WebFX, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, digital-marketing agency he co-founded with Karie Shearer from a Shippensburg University dorm room in 1996. He has spent more than two decades building the firm from Craig Web Design and WebpageFX into WebFX.
Starting in Naugle Hall at Shippensburg
Craig and co-founder Karie Shearer started what became WebFX in Naugle Hall at Shippensburg University when the school began offering free campus web hosting. The early shop was known as Craig Web Design, then WebpageFX, and it was among the first web-development providers serving Pennsylvania businesses online.
Craig earned a BSBA from Shippensburg and later an MSIS from the University of Pittsburgh, plus executive programs at Penn State and MIT's Entrepreneurial Masters Program. In a 2022 Central Penn Business Journal profile, he said he got started "building and marketing websites in college for book and beer money."
From WebpageFX to WebFX in Harrisburg
The company moved from shared Carlisle office space into Harrisburg landmarks the team calls The Mansion, FX2, and FX3 as headcount and client work expanded. WebpageFX rebranded as WebFX in 2018. Public history pages credit Craig as the primary visionary behind the firm's revenue-acceleration approach and in-house platforms such as RevenueCloudFX.
WebFX has repeatedly appeared on Inc. 5000 lists and has won Pennsylvania Best Place to Work recognition for multiple years. Craig still sets strategy as CEO while Shearer remains co-founder on the leadership roster.
Craig's Leadership Style
In the same CPBJ interview, Craig described his style as "client-focused, caring and fun," and said he aims to emulate the company's core values while driving performance and customer service. A later company release quoted him on staying "dependable partners who deliver real results."
