Scott Mumma is Chief Financial Officer of WebFX, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, digital marketing agency founded by William Craig. A finance, operations, and legal executive with about 25 years at growing technology companies, he spent most of his career as CFO and general counsel of software firms, including the videoconferencing software maker InSoft and the leadership-training company CorpU.
InSoft and the Netscape Sale
Mumma was CFO and general counsel of InSoft, a software company in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, whose products included Communique! for desktop videoconferencing and CoolTalk for audio and video calls over the internet. In January 1996 Netscape agreed to buy InSoft and use its technology as the base of Netscape LiveMedia, a framework meant to bring real-time audio and video to Netscape's browser and servers.
The deal closed in April 1996, and Mumma signed the merger documents Netscape later filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission as InSoft's corporate secretary. On LinkedIn he says he negotiated the sale and handled the transition that followed.
KnowledgePlanet and Mzinga
He went on to serve as CFO, COO, and general counsel of KnowledgePlanet, a company that sold e-learning software and training content to large corporate clients and was itself formed through a three-way merger. His LinkedIn account of those years includes selling off a $12 million IT services division to the staffing company Staffmark with a 15-day close, and managing KnowledgePlanet's merger with Shared Insights in 2007, which created the enterprise social software company Mzinga. CB Insights lists him as a former COO of Mzinga.
Rebuilding CorpU
At CorpU, an online leadership-development company that runs cohort-based courses for corporate employees, Mumma was CFO, general counsel, a board member, and one of two founding shareholders who bought the business from a public company. He writes on LinkedIn that he guided its move from fee-based consulting to software sold by subscription, structured the content licenses CorpU signed with outside partners and with its Fortune 500 customers, launched a joint venture in Saudi Arabia, and helped grow revenue from under $1 million to more than $10 million.
Udemy acquired CorpU in August 2021. At the time, CorpU's corporate clients included CVS Health, BJ's Wholesale Club, and Rite Aid.
Finance at WebFX and Nutshell
At WebFX he runs finance for the agency and for Nutshell, the sales CRM and marketing automation company WebFX owns. OmniSEO, WebFX's AI-powered SEO service, lists him on its leadership page as the executive overseeing financial strategy for both OmniSEO and WebFX. WebFX's own leadership page credits him with a background in venture and private equity financing and in mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
